The Message Women’s Devotional Bible: The Gospels Giveaway

When I first heard that NavPress was planning a women’s devotional Bible, I thought it sounded good, but not for me since I write for a more general audience of women and men. Then I learned that the text would be The Message, Eugene Peterson’s version of the Bible—begun as part of his pastoral ministry to put the Bible into everyday language for his congregation. One year, I read through his version of the Bible, including the introduction. I’ve appreciated, learned from, and recommended many of his books and interviews.

So when I was invited to contribute several short devotionals that would appear alongside the text of The Message, I readily agreed—and I’m glad I did! I haven’t seen the full Bible yet, but NavPress says that it includes “close to 400 devotional pieces written by 82 contributors, all women of diverse ages, vocations, backgrounds, races, and ethnicities.” I look forward to reading their insights and reflections on Scripture, and I love the cover and layout of The Gospels portion that has already been released:

I have two copies I’d love to give away on this website, and next week, I’ll post this same offer on my When You Work for the Church website. To enter the random draw, leave a comment about why you’d like a copy of The Message Women’s Devotional Bible: The Gospels. You can also order a copy here, and pre-order the full Bible (releasing August 5th) wherever you buy books.

Yes, I would like a copy of “The Message: Women’s Devtional Bible” to give to my daughter, who is a pastor. I would, of course, want to read it myself first!

I too would like the chance to have a copy to share with my best friends, of which there are more than I deserve . We come in many shapes and sizes and monikers. We are all in a journey and most look forward to a future with hope.
We communicate over lengthy e-mails, over coffee, at Bible study, and at church and gatherings.

WOW, what an amazing contribution that will be to our copy of the Message. I don’t use it daily, but read from it often either the hard back copy or on the Message version on my phone. I am excited to know that you have contributed to this Devotional Bible. I always appreciate your writings, first in the Rejoice from several years ago. Thank you for this special offer. Either way I hope to have one.

I would greatly appreciate the copy of the Message Bible: New Testament from a woman’s perspective. I have struggled with many of Paul’s messages for years about women, so I’d look forward to seeing other women’s interpretations.

Thank you April for a wonderful opportunity to get this bible. The other day I was thinking of just going through the bible reading on how women walked with God through their various issues…was blessed listening on a message of Sarah and how God fought her battles. Going through situation of illness of my husband and all the uncertainties that accompany that journey. Not to mention adult children challenges….it would be great to hear how many women encouraged themselves in God’s Word.

Having another tool at hand when I hit those tricky passages of Scripture is something I’d never turn down.

How exciting to be a part of this project!

As a womanist chaplain, I can never have enough books focused on women. Oh, the joy when I first discovered Renita Weems’ Just A Sister Away and then A Sacred Journey by Jan Richardson. I need to have a daily touch of God, and what better way than a Women’s Devotional Bible based on The Message. I want this for personal devotion and to use in spiritual care, bible study, spiritual direction, etc…. Thank you for this opportunity to gush about my love of women spiritual writers.

I think each one of the women that have commented deserve a copy of this devotional. It’s amazing to hear how many people want to soak in the word of God and feel they would benefit from the additional insight of female contributors from diverse backgrounds. I am interested because I’ve been going through a hard time more recently and believe that God’s Word holds a power that can change the course of my life and, in turn, the lives of those around me. I would be honoured and privileged to sit with The Message translation and learn from all the contributors.

  16. Thank you to all those who entered this draw. I so wish I had enough copies to give one to each of you! If you weren’t a winner, I hope you’ll find another way to read a copy of The Message Women’s Devotional Bible: The Gospels. The full Bible releases August 5.
