You’re Invited to Writing as a Spiritual Journey

“We’d like to invite you to present your workshop on Writing as a Spiritual Journey,” said the email. Could I provide details about the length and whether time for writing and reflection was already built in to the workshop?

What a delightful and surprising invitation! Delightful because I love connecting with other writers, and surprising because I don’t have a workshop on Writing as a Spiritual Journey. I’ve led a panel and my Substack focuses on that theme, but a workshop would be new. How God works in mysterious and surprising ways, and I’m happy to cooperate!

So, yes, I accepted the invitation, and the workshop is being planned for Saturday, October 24. I’d love to have you join us for Writing as a Spiritual Journey hosted by Surrey Christian Writers, which is part of The Word Guild.

A half day workshop with April Yamasaki
Saturday, October 24, 2026 – 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

“Writing is an act of faith, not of grammar.”—E.B.White, essayist, beloved children’s author of Charlotte’s Web and Stuart Little, co-author of The Elements of Style writing guide

In this workshop, April will share some of her writing journey, with time for you to reflect on your own journey, to engage in a creative prayer and writing practice, and to connect and share with other writers.

For author and editor April Yamasaki, writing as a spiritual journey includes

  • seeking God’s guidance and stepping out in faith,
  • meeting distractions, detours, and roadblocks,
  • learning from way stations of rest and renewal,
  • and much more!

Registration:  $30.00 ($25.00 Early Bird Price until September 16)
Includes workshop, coffee, tea, light refreshments. Does not include lunch, although there will be opportunity to gather with other writers for lunch at a local restaurant. For more information and/or to register, please see Surrey Christian Writers/The Word Guild.
